Once upon a time, the world had heroes.
Then everything went to hell. Literally. I mean, there were zombies involved. Batman died, or was sent back to the past, or something weird. I don't know. Getting the real story out of Gotham was impossible. Superman was more concerned with miniature versions of his home planet, Wonder Woman had an Amazonian war to worry about. Aquaman was dead and reborn and then dead again, which was, also, weird.
There were moments were everything clicked and fit back together. Bruce Wayne returned, the right man was back in the cowl and Dick Grayson could, finally, take a break. Superman returned to this world, took his place as protector of the entire planet, and Wonder Woman too made her way back to the world of man. The rest of the Justice League followed soon after, and for a little while, everything seemed like it was going to be okay.
The older heroes settled down. They had families, they saved the world a lot, and everything was perfect.
Then it went downhill. Hard and fast.
Lex Luthor returned, and Superman didn't survive the encounter. On his son's twelfth birthday, Bruce Wayne was shot and killed in an alley in Gotham City. Wonder Woman returned to the Amazons and removed the island from the World of Man. Permanently. The League disbanded, and when a new Batman rose up in Gotham, there was no one left to stop him, no matter how violent and depraved he got.
Except for the legislators, the lawmakers, the people who could outlaw heroes and vigilantes and make everything the Justice League worked for illegal. Putting on a mask was suddenly a criminal offense.
Suddenly, there were no heroes anymore. Just criminals wearing capes.
Dawn is breaking, though, and there's a new generation determined to make the world a better place, like it used to be. Before the zombies and the death and the darkness.
It's a brand new day. Hopefully the world will be in one piece when all this is done.
